After over-powering security officials shortly after midnight, no fewer than150 inmates of Enugu Prisons yesterday escaped from the prison.THISDAY learnt the prisoners broke roof ceilings and several locks to facilitate their escape.They also allegedly attacked the prison officials, beating them to a state of coma before making good their escape.Comptroller-General of the Prisons Service Olusola Ogundipe rushed to Enugu Prisons yesterday morning after being alerted of the incident.He told newsmen that some of his officials who were seriously wounded in the process had been rushed to the hospital for treatment.Ogundipe said of the 987 inmates in the prison, 150 escaped and that the quick assistance from the Army, Police and Civil Defence helped to re-capture 120 of them, remaining only 20 whom he said were now being hunted in all parts of the country.He said the reason for the escape of the inmates was simply agitation, adding that the number of the inmates was on the high side.
